Cultivating Vitality: Qi Gong & Traditional Chinese Medicine (养生之道 · Yǎng Shēng Zhī Dào)
调气养身,道在其中。
Regulate Qi, nourish the body — the Way is found within.
In daily life, balance is often lost before it is noticed.
This Qi Gong practice, 气功 (Qì Gōng), integrates traditional movement with the foundational principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 中医 (Zhōng Yī). Training emphasizes steady cultivation of health, clarity, and internal stability through consistent, embodied practice.
At Tianmeng, this approach is understood as the joint cultivation of 性 (Xìng · Mind / Nature) and 命 (Mìng · Life / Vitality) — refining awareness and character while strengthening the body and preserving essential vitality.
性命双修,内外自和。
When mind and life are cultivated together, inner and outer return to harmony.
Our Philosophy: The Unity of Qi Gong & Traditional Chinese Medicine (气功与中医之道 · Qì Gōng yǔ Zhōng Yī Zhī Dào)
Harmonizing Qi · 调气 (Tiáo Qì)
Students learn to cultivate, circulate, and regulate 气 (Qì · vital energy) through breath, movement, and mindful awareness, supporting balance throughout the whole body.
Supporting the Organ Systems · 脏腑调和 (Zàng Fǔ Tiáo Hé)
Practice is informed by TCM’s understanding of the internal organs and their interrelationships. Training gently strengthens organ function and supports internal harmony rather than forceful correction.
Cultivating Mind and Life · 性命双修 (Xìng Mìng Shuāng Xiū)
This principle lies at the heart of all training. Practice nourishes 命 (Mìng · vitality and longevity) while refining 性 (Xìng · mind and awareness). Together, they calm the emotions, stabilize the spirit, and support lasting health from within.
气和则身健,性明则心安。
When Qi is harmonious, the body is healthy; when awareness is clear, the heart is at peace.
About the Course
1. The Six Healing Sounds (Liu Zi Jue - 六字诀)
This is a Traditional Chinese Medicine–based Qi Gong practice, 气功 (Qì Gōng), that uses sound, breath, and gentle movement to support the regulation and health of the internal organs.
What You’ll Learn
Students are introduced to the Six Healing Sounds, 六字诀 (Liù Zì Jué), a classical Qi Gong method that combines specific breathing patterns, coordinated movements, and vocalized sounds. The six sounds practiced are:
嘘 (Xū)
呵 (Hē)
呼 (Hū)
呬 (Sī)
吹 (Chuī)
嘻 (Xī)
Each sound is practiced with relaxed posture, steady breath, and attentive awareness.
TCM Connection
From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 中医 (Zhōng Yī), each sound corresponds to an internal organ system and its energetic pathway: Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lungs, Kidneys, and the Triple Burner, 三焦 (Sān Jiāo). Practice supports the smooth movement of 气 (Qì), helping to release stagnation and restore internal balance.
Potential Benefits
With regular, mindful practice, students may experience:
Reduced stress and improved emotional regulation
Greater awareness of internal organ function
Calmer breathing and increased lung capacity
Enhanced balance and overall vitality
Benefits develop gradually through consistency and relaxation rather than force.
声和则脏安,气顺则身调。
When sound is harmonious, the organs are at ease; when Qi flows smoothly, the body is regulated.
2. The Eight Pieces of Brocade ( 金刚八部功)
This practice is one of the most widely transmitted Qi Gong forms in Chinese tradition, known as 八段锦 (Bā Duàn Jǐn · Eight Brocades). The sequence is composed of eight coordinated movements that gently stretch the body, build integrated strength, and support the smooth circulation of 气 (Qì).
What You’ll Learn
Students are guided through a flowing series of eight postures that are accessible to beginners while offering depth for long-term cultivation. Training emphasizes correct posture, coordinated breathing, and continuous, unforced movement, allowing the body to open and strengthen naturally.
TCM Connection
From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 中医 (Zhōng Yī), this sequence supports the regulation of the meridian system (经络 · jīng luò), strengthens the 丹田 (Dān Tián) — the body’s primary energy center — and promotes the harmonious movement of Qi and blood (气血 · qì xuè) throughout the body.
Potential Benefits
With regular, mindful practice, students may experience:
Improved flexibility, posture, and joint mobility
Increased core stability and overall strength
A calmer nervous system and steadier breath
Greater vitality and physical resilience
Benefits arise through consistency and awareness rather than intensity, allowing the practice to mature gradually over time.
缓行则气畅,久练则身安。
When movement is gentle, Qi flows freely; with long practice, the body settles into ease.
3.The Foundation of Life: Qigong Breathing(TuNa吐纳)
Breath is the bridge between body and mind.
Through conscious breathing, 气 (Qì) becomes steady, the mind settles, and the body learns to regulate itself with greater ease. What You’ll Learn
Students are introduced to foundational breathing methods, including 腹式呼吸 (Fù Shì Hū Xī · Abdominal / Dān Tián Breathing), 逆腹式呼吸 (Nì Fù Shì Hū Xī · Reverse Breathing), and 自然呼吸 (Zì Rán Hū Xī · Natural Breathing). Instruction emphasizes correct posture, relaxation, and smooth coordination, avoiding force or strain.
TCM Connection
From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 中医 (Zhōng Yī), these breathing methods gently support the internal organs, regulate the autonomic nervous system, and stabilize the 神 (Shén · spirit). Breath becomes a tool for anchoring awareness and restoring internal balance.
Potential Benefits
With consistent practice, students may experience:
Reduced anxiety and improved emotional regulation
Increased energy and steadier, deeper breathing
Greater mental focus and clarity
Improved digestive comfort and overall regulation
As with all internal practices, benefits arise gradually through regular, mindful application.
气定则神安,息和则身调。
When Qi is settled, the spirit is calm; when the breath is harmonious, the body is regulated.
4. Sitting Meditation(打坐) & Standing Meditation
Meditation at Tianmeng is taught as a method of settling the mind, stabilizing 气 (Qì), and cultivating internal stillness through correct posture, breath, and attentive awareness.
What You’ll Learn
Students receive step-by-step guidance in foundational meditation principles, including posture, relaxation, and essential precautions. Instruction addresses common errors that can lead to mental restlessness or energetic imbalance, supporting the development of a stable, sustainable practice over time.
TCM Connection
From the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 中医 (Zhōng Yī), meditation supports the smooth circulation of Qi and the regulation of internal pathways associated with calm awareness. Practice introduces the principles of the Small Circulation, 小周天 (Xiǎo Zhōu Tiān), offering a framework for understanding how attention, breath, and posture work together to cultivate internal balance.
Potential Benefits
With regular practice, students may experience:
A calmer, more focused mind
Reduced anxiety and greater emotional equilibrium
Improved posture, stability, and gentle muscular engagement
A deeper sense of internal stillness through practices such as 站桩 (Zhàn Zhuāng · Standing Meditation)
心定则气顺,静久则神明。
When the mind is settled, Qi flows smoothly; with sustained stillness, the spirit becomes clear.
5. Daily Life Nourishment Movements
These practices are designed to weave Qi Gong, 气功 (Qì Gōng) into daily life through simple, stand-alone movements that can be practiced anywhere. The focus is on maintaining balance, smooth circulation, and ease throughout the day, allowing practice to continue beyond formal training sessions.
What You’ll Learn
Students learn practical exercises that support steady energy, relaxation, and the prevention of common tension patterns, particularly in the neck, shoulders, and spine. Movements are accessible, easy to remember, and require no special equipment, encouraging regular self-care.
Examples of Practices
Knocking at the Kidney Gate · 敲肾门 (Qiāo Shèn Mén)
Rubbing the Dan Tian · 揉丹田 (Róu Dān Tián)
Gentle spinal twisting · 脊柱轻扭 (Jǐ Zhù Qīng Niǔ)
Meridian tapping sequences · 经络拍打 (Jīng Luò Pāi Dǎ)
Through consistent use, these practices help sustain circulation, release accumulated tension, and support the steady regulation of 气 (Qì) throughout the day.
行于日常,养在细微。
Practice lives in daily life; nourishment is found in the subtle.
